WHAT IS THE INTEREST IN DISC?

DISC is a favorite four-quadrant, needs-motivated personality profiling model.  WHY?

It is one of the world's most popular models for self-and-other-understanding; a scientific, yet easily understood instrument that has been validated and, even more importantly, rated as  highly accurate by respondants by millions of people world-wide who agree that the resulting report helps them see and understand themselves better.

All DISC profiles are based on what Dr. William Marston included in the research in his book, "Emotions of Normal People".   Click here for a slide show on the History of DISC.

DISC represents the four behavioral descriptors Dr. William Moulton Marston identified in his research into why (normal) people do what they do. He was a behavioral psychologist and author of "The Emotions of Normal People." He found that a person's primary motivators are needs-driven and can be observed their typical patterns, attitudes, and the amount of energy they invest in the four major areas of life

(D) Dominance of problems - D-style people are fast paced and task focused, who prefer to be in situations where they can be in charge and delegate tasks to others..

(I) Influence of people - I-style people are fast paced and people focused and who love social situations, friendship, and communicating

(S)Steadiness of the pace of the environment - S's are people who move more cautiously and are people focused. Count on them to be systematic, patient, and persistent in nurturing teams, listening well and completing tasks others leave..

(C) Compliance to procedures and rules - C's are people who also move more cautiously, are task focused, and prefer being correct by knowing all the facts..

No one is limited to their DISC style, but others find us more often in one or two more than the others.  and no one is only one style-type (in fact, we all operate from each of the patterns in the course of our daily life in differing levels of intensity) over time, we tend to be more comfortable in one or two styles rather than the otour favorite of the main four patterns:

Carol Dysart, founder and CEO of PeopleSmart Solutions found DISC to be one of the easiest models to use for her counseling practice.  She believes any good coach, trainer, or employer should know the DISC of everyone they work with and has used it for over 30 years for training and consulting in People-Skills.  She is DISCUS the author of a comprehensive book on DISC: Keys for Sales (a FREE bonus with  orders of 10 or more DISCUS profiles.)

She DISCUS and Money Making Systems is also the co-author of the book, "Money-Making Systems" with DC Cordova, owner of the Money & You and Excellerated Business Schools for Entrepreneurs programs and provides DISC profiles for all their programs. Their books are available on-line and has also been translated into Chinese as a text book in business by a Chinese University in Beijing.

Carol's goal is to have every business and family get some basis training in DISC because it is such a useful language for describing behavior. "If parents are not aware of their own style," says Carol, "they may miss opportuities to develop a balanced cues their children give to the interpretations they are making in early childhood.  (This is one of the reasons PeopleSmart Solutions is so committed to getting DISC awareness to parents of small children. If they can see how a child is interpreting things that happen to them they can also suggest more than one way of looking at it, thus providing a balanced and flexible behavioral style as the child grows up.)

Are people "stuck" with their style? .Absolutely not!  Behaviors are reinforced through  practice, so once awareness that we have options for how we think comes to us, then it is easier to shift our behaviors. Few adults have ever thought about their personality style from a positive descriptive and objective point of view until they get a profile done, nor have they been taught how to change those adult behaviors which came from decisions they made by the time they were three-years-old!

PeopleSmart Solutions is committed to making the world more PeopleSmart and now has DISC as well as 18 other types of profiles for self-examination and insight
